Signed and dated miniatures by Forrest are rare. He learned to draw at the Dublin Society’s school of figure drawing. These two very good examples of his distinctive style of miniature painting are reminiscent of his pastel and chalk portraits in the use of cool, grey-blue shading and powdery tones. Forrest focuses on the details of the sitter’s hair and face to produce timeless portraits.
