Signed, 18.5 × 14.7cm

Born in 1869 in Dublin, Mac was a multitalented sports woman, suffragist, and actress. She turned to creating caricatures in the early 1920s. Her skill was discovered at the age of 50, by accident; during a dinner party she stated to the then editor of the Irish Times that she saw people ‘in geometic shapes,’ and to illustrate her point she created her first ‘Mac’ caricatures. Her subjects were politicians and artists from the newly independent Ireland. Her work was published in many newspapers and in 1925 she published a book called The Celebrity Zoo of twenty caricatures, of which W.B. Yeats, George Russell (AE), and William Cosgrave featured.
