This portrait depicts Vivette Hendricks, cousin of David Hendricks (1924–1983), founder of the Richie Hendricks Gallery in Dublin. The Hendricks family belonged to the Jamaican upper-middle class. David came to Ireland to study and remained there, establishing his own gallery and becoming a central figure in Dublin’s mid-century art world. Under David’s direction, the gallery developed into a lively hub of artistic activity, attracting painters, writers, and collectors.
