In the second half of the pair, the end of the story is illustrated, with the same lady being wooed by a young man who owns better clothes than the previous suitor. This time, the young lady in red looks down in an attitude of shy acceptance of her lover’s proposal. She is the one with her hands crossed, conveying some embarrassment, but the position of the lovers on the same side of the wooden gate leave no doubt as to the happy resolution of the proposal, and the white birch in the background offers them its blessing.
