‘Ballymote Church or Abbey Co. Sligo’

Bigari was from Bologna, Italy, and came to Ireland where he worked as a scene-painter of the Smock Alley Theatre. In 1777 from his address in South King Street he exhibited six works at the Society of Artists in William Street. Later he toured with Gabriel Beranger recording ancient buildings and antiquites. Many of his watercolours and drawings were engraved for Grose’s antiquities including the work exhibited here.
